Clean craft

I know! I couldn't beleive it either but it is true. there is such thing as a clean and easy to do craft for kids!here is my little guy showing you how easy and clean it really is! We tried this craft before dinner one night to help keep the kids calm and out of my hair! A dear friend of mine gave me this idea so thank you so very much to her:)
Here is what you do, take a piece of cunstruction paper, any color will do, a glue stick, a pen and some uncooked noodles. We used macaroni noodles.
Write a big letter on the paper, whatever letter you are working on, then have your child trace the letter with the glue stick, then give them a handful or a small owl full of noodles and have them stick the noodles on the line.
Not only is this great fun, but it helps them with a ton of different motor skills and letter recognition. In the bottom left corner you can see my daughters creative flare, a happy face with a tongue.
The ideas are endless, and when it dries you can just crinkle the paper and the noodles fall off ready to use tomorrow night:)
Have fun!

The Chair

This one was alot of work. And really unless you get your fabric super cheap I don't think it is much cheaper than the cheap ones you can buy at Walmart. However, I did have a lot of fun making it and The boy does love it, it is his reading chair in his room. or his ship when he is a pirate, or his punching bag when he is mad at his brother, or his singing chair... the list is endless:)
You also have to be prepared to make more once you have finished yoru first one. As soon as the kids find out you can make them , they are sure to find a fabric that would be perfect in their room!
And really now that I have a full size pattern cut out and ready to go, the next two should go faster:)

Ice Cream anyone?!

Here it is my first kids sweater!
I finished a while ago, but am just getting around to blogging it now:)
Sadly I have not been keeping up on the photos of my latest projects.

This one is size 3-6 months. I found it on a web site that was featured on knittingdaily.com , a newsletter I get that has tons of info on crochet, knits and sewing.

Another helpful site is craftster.com. If you visit this one, make sure you make yourself a cup of tea and get comfy before entering! It is a community that has something for everyone and the pictures to prove it!

Noah's Blinds

This fabric was the inspiration for the colors of his room! I found this fabric quite some time ago and thought he would really enjoy the theme.
They turned out really well.

Here is the quilt I made for my husband for a house warming gift.
We found this kit in our local quilt shop and we both fell in love with it.
So in typical fashion, with more than I can manage on my plate... I took on the daunting task of "whipping" together a queen size quilt while packing and staging a house!

Much to my surprise, my husband had no clue I had taken on the challenge until he opened his package at our "house warming" party :)

I think for a little while I will stick with my little one blankets and gifts! And leave the big ones to the professionals!

Seat rescuing

This was our first order of business when we moved in! It was so musty and made us cough. So the day we moved in I made a trip into our "local" fabricland!

Here is our kitchen bench seat before and after.
It is my first ever attempt at re-upholstering. I used a fake leather in a nice neutral color.
It took a little over and hour. It was close to wrapping a gift really... except using a staple gun instead of tape.

2 years Old!

A birthday cake... yep one amonth for the first three months of the year! Sadly no more cakes until June:( And even then it usually ends up being a chocolate fondue! August I guess is REALLY the next cake month for this family!

Our two year old is really into the old caroton Blue's Clue's So I found some pictures of some cakes and thought I would modify it and use ice cream as the body of the cake. So I made a cookie crumb base and layered chocolate ice cream with skor bars crushed in the middle ( provided by the Bulk Barn which is great for pircing when it comes to crushing skor bars!) with vanilla on top and covered with tinted whipped topping.
I priced it all out and found that it was comparable with purchased ice cream cakes. It was alot easier than a regular decorated cake but took two days to make. I thankfully found all the ingrediants on sale so it was cheaper, but otherwise it would have been the same. keep in mind our wasn't decorated, so to decorate would cost more.
The toes were oreo ice cream sandwhiches covered with the same as the cake.
It was greatly enjoyed by all!!!! We all agreed that it tasted better than a purchased cake. But I think it has to do with the fact we put in the middle our favorite chocolate bars!

Here are some pictures of a blanket I made this past summer for a friends friends baby girl.
The light green squares are a beautiful chenille.
The rest of the squares are a light-weight cotton flannel.

Babies babies babies:)

Dear friends of our have been trying to have children for a few years now. This past week we celebrated the coming birth of their first "boy". They are due the begining fo February. This week was her last week of work so we had her baby shower now. The dr's say it's a boy, well with these gifts we are sure hoping the doctor isn't wrong!

This is a new technique I learned called chenilling. The duck is outlined and the star is chenilled and the yellow lines on the sides are chenilled. It is four fabrics sewed together than cut into strips then sewn in whatever design you want. It is a lovely way to accent a simple blanket.

The backing was a simple blue feet pattern.
As a side toy I made a fabric square. I had alot of fabric strips left over and raggedy squares from previous projects. So I sewed the strips of fabric together and folded them over. I sewed them onto the edges of raggedy squares. Then quilted in a simple square pattern.

Sorry for the delay :)
But I do have a few birthdays coming so I will have a few more cakes to put up here! I am looking forward to trying my hand at an ice cream cake, and sparklers!
I am also looking for ideas for baby quilts.... if you have any or seen a nice one somewhere, please share!
