2 years Old!

A birthday cake... yep one amonth for the first three months of the year! Sadly no more cakes until June:( And even then it usually ends up being a chocolate fondue! August I guess is REALLY the next cake month for this family!

Our two year old is really into the old caroton Blue's Clue's So I found some pictures of some cakes and thought I would modify it and use ice cream as the body of the cake. So I made a cookie crumb base and layered chocolate ice cream with skor bars crushed in the middle ( provided by the Bulk Barn which is great for pircing when it comes to crushing skor bars!) with vanilla on top and covered with tinted whipped topping.
I priced it all out and found that it was comparable with purchased ice cream cakes. It was alot easier than a regular decorated cake but took two days to make. I thankfully found all the ingrediants on sale so it was cheaper, but otherwise it would have been the same. keep in mind our wasn't decorated, so to decorate would cost more.
The toes were oreo ice cream sandwhiches covered with the same as the cake.
It was greatly enjoyed by all!!!! We all agreed that it tasted better than a purchased cake. But I think it has to do with the fact we put in the middle our favorite chocolate bars!

Here are some pictures of a blanket I made this past summer for a friends friends baby girl.
The light green squares are a beautiful chenille.
The rest of the squares are a light-weight cotton flannel.

I finally made a hat that actually fits bugaboo's head! And I mastered the cable knit at the same time! Sadly it won't fit him next year...I guess I'll just have to make more:)

Babies babies babies:)

Dear friends of our have been trying to have children for a few years now. This past week we celebrated the coming birth of their first "boy". They are due the begining fo February. This week was her last week of work so we had her baby shower now. The dr's say it's a boy, well with these gifts we are sure hoping the doctor isn't wrong!

This is a new technique I learned called chenilling. The duck is outlined and the star is chenilled and the yellow lines on the sides are chenilled. It is four fabrics sewed together than cut into strips then sewn in whatever design you want. It is a lovely way to accent a simple blanket.

The backing was a simple blue feet pattern.
As a side toy I made a fabric square. I had alot of fabric strips left over and raggedy squares from previous projects. So I sewed the strips of fabric together and folded them over. I sewed them onto the edges of raggedy squares. Then quilted in a simple square pattern.

I have some more coming, but they are gifts... so I have to wait until I give them away before I can post the pictures of them!
Sorry for the delay :)
But I do have a few birthdays coming so I will have a few more cakes to put up here! I am looking forward to trying my hand at an ice cream cake, and sparklers!
I am also looking for ideas for baby quilts.... if you have any or seen a nice one somewhere, please share!
